Syringa Networks finalized the purchase of Syringa Wireless Monday.
Syringa Wireless will remain a separate company but will gain access to Syringa Networks' statewide fiber-optic network to enhance its data capability.
Syringa Networks is a business-only regional fiber optic network provider that supports the bandwidth needs of national wireless providers. The explosion of smartphones and other wireless devices has increased the demand from providers.
“The combination of companies creates Idaho’s first, and only, fully integrated network and wireless service provider,” said Greg Lowe, Syringa Networks president and CEO. "As mobility dominates business and consumer applications, only the wireless providers who own their own fiber backbone will be able to efficiently provide their customers’ needs. The combination of Syringa Wireless and Syringa Networks provides Idaho an unmatched offering for unlimited data access.”
Lowe declined to reveal the price paid for the company.
Scott Dike, formerly marketing manager for Syringa Networks, was appointed general manager of Syringa Wireless.
“While most wireless companies place limitations on data usage by their customers, we are positioned to continue to offer truly unlimited plans at competitive price points," Dike said. "This gives our customers an Idaho owned choice for their voice and data provider.”
Twelve rural telephone companies founded Syringa Networks, and later, five of the companies started Syringa Wireless. Syringa Wireless is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Syringa Networks.
