SONET: 99.999%

Synchronous optic network (SONET) technology is a standard for optical telecommunications transport that provides a flexible architecture capable of accommodating future applications with a variety of transmission rates. The speed and cost of SONET make the technology competitive with alternatives like ATM and Gigabit Ethernet.

One of the contributing factors to reliability and fault-tolerant protection in a network is SONET technology. Syringa Networks is equipped with Fujitsu SONET multiplexers and uses the SONET rings architecture known as “self-healing rings”. This technology uses automatic protection switching (APS) that creates redundant copies of traffic and intelligently monitors the quality and automatically re-routes traffic if the transmission quality degrades, a cable is cut, or a network node experiences failure.

Syringa Networks uses SONET and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) in its transport core to insure reliability and the flexibility to accommodate the most demanding applications. Standard features and benefits include:

  • Full range of circuit channel options: DS-1 to OC-192
  • Accommodates new and emerging protocols
  • Ring configured route is protected and monitored 24x7x365
  • Assurance of 99.999% availability with restoration intervals less than 50 milliseconds if a disruption occurs
